Project Overview

NEW DIVIDED HIGHWAY THROUGH THE UPPER KEYS

Central Civil served as prime contractor on the $15.9 million SR5 / US1 Key Largo project for FDOT, delivering 2.86 miles of new divided highway from September 2009 through October 2011. The scope included storm drainage, earthwork, paving, barrier wall, lighting, striping, signage, and fencing throughout the project corridor.

The project also included construction of bridges and reinforced earth walls — structural elements required by the unique geography and environmental conditions of the Upper Keys. Work in Key Largo required strict adherence to Florida Keys environmental protection requirements throughout the construction footprint.

As prime contractor, Central Civil self-performed the complete civil scope along one of Florida's most environmentally sensitive highway corridors.
