Central Civil Construction has been serving South Florida for three generations, specializing in the most complex civil site projects in the region. From deep excavations and underground utility work to heavy highway construction, earthwork, land development, and infrastructure engineering, we take on the projects that demand precision, experience, and an uncompromising standard of quality.
With more than 150 employees and a management team with over 300 years of combined hands-on experience, Central Civil has the scale and capability to deliver the largest jobs in the market. But what sets us apart is how we deliver them. As a family-owned company, the owners are directly involved in every project. SINCE 1977
Our HISTORY
Richard Baer joins the family business, learning the trades from the ground up and beginning a career focused on field operations and technology.
Central Civil becomes a trusted subcontractor and general contractor on landmark South Florida projects including the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, American Airlines Arena, and major FDOT highway work.
Central Civil serves as managing partner for The Underline Phase 1, prime contractor for Miami International Airport's $76 million Central Base Apron project, and continues delivering major infrastructure work across South Florida.
The company rebrands from Central Florida Equipment to Central Civil Construction, reflecting its evolution from an equipment rental company to a best-in-class civil contractor.
Bob Baer graduates from Florida International University with a degree in construction management and joins the company full-time, focusing on business development and client relations.
The company takes on its largest and most technically complex projects to date, including the Port of Miami Tunnel excavation, FLL Runway Expansion (joint venture with Odebrecht), and Marlins Ballpark infrastructure.
Founder James Baer passes away. His sons Richard and Bob continue his legacy, leading the company into its next chapter.

James Theodore Baer
Chairman & Founder · Central Civil
Jim Baer founded Central Civil Construction in 1977 with a vision to bring expertise and quality to South Florida's growing construction industry. He started with two employees, two pieces of equipment, and an office in his home. Under his leadership, the company grew to become one of the leading construction services providers in Florida with revenues in excess of $100 million.
Joined by his two sons, Jim built a company of over 150 employees while always taking care of his family, his people, and the clients who trusted him. His drive to use technology to improve quality and efficiency earned Central Civil a reputation for innovation, and his commitment to doing the work the right way built a culture that still defines the company today.
His hard work and huge heart built the foundation of a company primed for generations to come.
