THE WORK BEHIND THE RUNWAY

Central Civil performed demolition, underground utilities installation, and soil improvements across more than 700,000 square yards in preparation for a new 8,000-foot runway at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Methods included cementitious soil mixing, mass vibration tamping, and vibration rod techniques to stabilize the site prior to embankment placement.

The project required taxiway embankment placement of over 7 million cubic yards — one of the largest earthwork scopes in South Florida's aviation history. MSE wall construction exceeded 350,000 square feet in area with heights surpassing 60 feet. The team installed more than 20,000 linear feet of storm drainage including structures and end walls, and managed contaminated soils remediation throughout.

This was a joint venture with Odebrecht, one of the largest engineering and construction firms in the world, reflecting Central Civil's capability to operate at the highest level of infrastructure delivery.
